Images, CSV, JSON and ZIP files convert the instant you drop them, here in your browser. PDF, Word, video and audio open their own tool. Up to 100 MB per file.

Looking for a format the drop box did not offer? Pick the pair here and open its tool.

Image, PDF building, archive and data tools convert inside your browser, so those files never leave your device. How processing works.

How it works

Three steps, no detours

Drop a file on the box above and the usual conversion for that format runs straight away, with nothing uploaded.

  1. Drop your files

Drag them onto the box above, or press Choose Files. Images, CSV, JSON and ZIP files are read the moment they land, right here in the page.

  2. It converts on the spot

The usual conversion for that format runs immediately, on your own device. Another format is one press away, and PDF, Word, video and audio open their own tool.

  3. Download the result

The converted file appears with its new size, ready to save. No watermark, no sign-up, and no waiting room.

Why it is safe to use

Built to be trusted, not just fast

Four promises, written plainly, that hold for every tool on the site.

  • Free, with no catch

Every tool is free to use. No trial that expires, no watermark on the result, and no daily limit that appears once you are halfway through.

  • Secure processing

Traffic runs over HTTPS. Many tools convert entirely in your browser, so those files are never transmitted at all.

  • No account required

No email address, no password, no newsletter. Open the tool, convert the file, close the tab.

  • Files stay on your device

Available converters process files in your browser. Server conversions are not connected and upload nothing.

Good to know

Converting files, without the guesswork

A converter that does not get in the way

Most free converters make you work for it: a queue, a sign-up wall that appears once the file is already uploaded, a watermark on the way out. FileFormatLab is built the other way round. The upload panel is the first thing on the page, the format you want is one press away, and the download appears as soon as the job is done. No pop-ups, no countdown, no bundled installer.

Which conversions run on your own device

Modern browsers can do real work. Every image conversion here, along with JPG and PNG to PDF, ZIP creation and unpacking, and the CSV and JSON tools, runs entirely inside your browser: 23 tools in total. Those files are never sent anywhere, which is the strongest privacy guarantee available, because there is no copy to store. Video and audio now also convert on your device. PDF to Word and Word to PDF are not available yet. Their pages say so before you choose a file.

Choosing a tool for your file

PDF to Word, Word to PDF and Compress PDF are planned and cannot process files yet. JPG to PDF turns a set of photographed documents into one attachment. HEIC to JPG converts iPhone photos when your browser supports HEIC decoding. WebP to JPG solves images saved from the web that an editor refuses. MP4 to MP3 pulls the audio out of a talk. Merge PDF combines documents; Split PDF extracts selected pages.

Formats worth knowing about

A format is a container with trade-offs rather than a quality setting. JPG is small and lossy, right for photographs. PNG is lossless with transparency, right for screenshots and logos. WebP does both jobs in fewer bytes and is supported everywhere on the web. PDF fixes a layout so it looks the same everywhere. DOCX keeps text editable. Picking the target format on purpose, rather than by habit, is usually the difference between a file that works and a file that gets bounced back.

Frequently asked questions

Is FileFormatLab really free?

Yes. Every tool on the site is free, with no trial period, no watermark on the output and no daily cap. There is nothing to buy and no account to create.

Do I need to sign up or give an email address?

No. Conversion starts the moment you add a file. We do not ask for an email address, we do not send newsletters, and there is no login anywhere on the site.

What happens to my files?

The available converters run inside your browser and do not upload your files. Server conversions are not available yet. Each tool is labelled so you can check before choosing a file.

How large a file can I convert?

Up to 100 MB per file for documents and images, and 100 MB for video. Batch tools accept up to 20 files. Available browser tools also depend on device memory, so a large batch on a phone will run out of room sooner than the same batch on a laptop.

Will my formatting survive the conversion?

It depends on the format and converter. Each available tool explains what it keeps and what it changes. Word conversion is not available yet. Keep your original and inspect the downloaded result.

Which browsers work?

Use a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari browser. Support depends on the file and tool: HEIC needs a compatible image decoder, and large media conversions may exceed phone memory. The tool page explains its requirements.
