How to convert WEBP to JPG

The format the web saved for you

Save an image from a modern website and you often get a .webp file, because sites serve WebP to cut page weight. It is a good format and badly supported outside the browser: plenty of desktop editors, print shops and web forms will not take it. JPG goes everywhere.

Transparency and animation

WebP can hold transparency, which JPG cannot, so transparent areas are placed on white. Animated WebP files exist too, and since JPG holds a single frame you will get the first frame. For those, converting to GIF or keeping the WebP is the better move.

WEBP to JPG: common questions

Will the image look worse?

WebP can be lossy or lossless, but JPG is lossy. The default JPG quality is 90 percent and you can change it. Inspect fine detail in the result and keep the original image.

Why did the file get bigger?

WebP compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the same picture usually needs more bytes as a JPG. You are trading size for compatibility.

Can I convert to PNG instead?

Yes, use WebP to PNG when you need to keep a transparent background or want a lossless copy for editing.

Do you keep a copy of my image?

No copy exists to keep. The conversion happens in your browser, so the image is never sent to us.
