How it works

How to convert XLSX to CSV

  1. Add your XLSX files

What an importer needs

Most import tools want one flat table with a single header row. A workbook full of merged cells, formulas and multiple sheets is not that. The converter exports stored cell values; it does not calculate formulas. Recalculate and save the workbook in a spreadsheet application first if its cached results are missing or out of date.

Sheets and formatting

Every nonempty sheet is exported as a separate CSV. The current converter exports all sheets, regardless of the Sheets selector. CSV does not preserve colours, fonts or column widths. Check date formatting and encoding in your destination application before importing.

Which sheet gets converted?

Every nonempty worksheet is exported. The current Sheets selector does not restrict the export. Keep the CSV you need, or download the results together as a ZIP.

Are formulas kept?

Formulas are not recalculated. Stored results are exported when available. Open, recalculate and save your workbook first, then check the CSV before importing it.

What happens to merged cells?

The value lands in the first cell of the merged range and the rest are left empty, which keeps every row the same width.

Are older .xls files supported?

Yes, along with OpenDocument .ods spreadsheets from LibreOffice.
