How it works

How to unzip files

  1. Add your ZIP file

    Drag it onto the panel above, or press Choose Files. Accepts .zip.

  2. Press Convert to Files

    Your browser does the work. A progress bar tracks it, and nothing is uploaded at any point.

  3. Download your Files file

    The result appears with its new size. One press and it is saved.

For the machines that cannot

Desktop operating systems unzip on their own, but a phone, a tablet or a work computer where you cannot install software often cannot. This tool reads the archive in your browser, lists what is inside with sizes, and lets you download the entries you actually want.

Nothing is uploaded

The archive is decompressed on your device using the browser own inflate support, so the contents never reach a server. That matters with archives of documents, where the whole point of the ZIP was to move something private in one piece.

ZIP to Files: common questions

Can it open password protected archives?

No. Encrypted entries are listed but cannot be extracted here, and the page tells you which ones are locked rather than producing broken files.

What about RAR and 7z files?

Those are different formats and are not supported. Only standard ZIP archives, including the deflate and stored methods, are read.

Do I have to download everything?

No. The contents are listed first and every entry has its own download button, so you can take a single document out of a large archive.

Is there a limit on archive size?

Upload selection is limited to one ZIP up to 100 MB. Extracted contents may be much larger than the archive and can exceed browser memory, especially on a phone.
